In 1981, the museum-reserve was founded, covering an area of 307 hectares. It included the Shakhmatovo estate and the village of Tarakanovo, where Alexander Blok was married to Lyubov Mendeleeva in the Church of St. Michael the Archangel. Shakhmatovo Manor was acquired by Blok’s grandfather, A. N. Beketov, in 1874. Blok spent most of his time in St. Petersburg, and came to Shakhmatovo for the summer almost throughout his life. The wooden manor house was rebuilt by Block according to his own design in 1910.
During the Civil War, the manor was burned and looted. In Soviet times and before the creation of the museum, the ruined manor was a place of pilgrimage for fans of the poet’s work. The main house was restored only in 2001, after which excursions and mass events began to be held there. On the territory of the Shakhmatovo estate there is a natural monument — Blokovsky boulder.
Shakhmatovo impresses with its surroundings — hilly terrain, a variety of vegetation, historical architecture create a very picturesque panorama, along which one wants to walk and look for views for future paintings. In the summer, I have planned an open-air and I am already waiting for good weather, but in the meantime I am sharing the autumn views of the estate.Shakhmatovo.RF/ find all the information about these places.
I recommend to visit the tour, which is conducted by a girl. She tells a very fascinating story about the life of the Beketov-Blok family. The manor is inhabited by horses and cats, each of which has its own unusual name. For example, we happened to see the cat Sneezer — when he gets nervous, he starts sneezing.
I also remember the Far Eastern buckwheat — it is very picturesque for artists at any time. for gardeners, it is unpretentious and grows up to 3 meters per season. But we must remember that it is practically impossible to remove this plant, and now it is already becoming a weed.
The journey from Moscow by toll road will take an hour and a half, but it’s worth it. It is better to spend more time visiting these places, there is something to see.
